I was fortunate to be invited to exhibit some of my degree show work at the London Design Museum in 2008, it was a great experience. The piece shown above was commissioned for their permanent collection. It's called The Creativity Machine and is a tongue-in-cheek look at the design process. The machine is actuated by inserting a penny, you then wind a mechanism which lifts a marble (representing a thought) onto a system of tracks. The tracks have gates which deflect the motion of the marble (representing choice). The marble can take a myriad of routes and when it reaches it's final destination the machine dispenses a ticket with a little trinket of design inspiration – A penny for your thoughts...
Underpinning the piece is the idea that creativity is not a ridged process, as often presented. Instead it celebrates the organic nature of ideas creation.
